The Uprising of 1857: Deojee and Sekunder’s Rebellion
On this day, we remember the valor of individuals like Deojee and Sekunder, who resisted the oppressive Company-raj during the Uprising of 1857. Deojee, originally serving in the English East India Company army, chose to desert his post in Satara, Maharashtra, to join the freedom fighters. His actions led to his capture, trial, and eventual transportation to the Andaman Islands, where he died on March 9, 1859. Similarly, Sekunder, caught defending rebel positions against British attacks, faced a harsh sentence of imprisonment with hard labor. Transported to the Andaman Islands, his life also ended in captivity on June 11, 1859. Both individuals exemplify the spirit of rebellion and the harsh consequences faced by those who dared to oppose British rule.
The Quit India Movement: Basant Lal Raval’s Ultimate Sacrifice
The Quit India Movement of 1942 inspired countless Indians to rally against British dominion. Among them was Basant Lal Raval, a young student from Gujarat. On this day in 1943, Raval participated in a demonstration in Ahmadabad, echoing the call for British withdrawal.
