This essay critically examines the US-led invasion of Iraq, tracing its immediate effects and long-lasting impacts on Iraq’s political, cultural, and economic landscape. Highlighting the event of Muqtada al-Sadr’s followers storming the Iraqi Parliament in July 2022, we explore the deep divisions and the enduring legacy of the invasion. By comparing this intervention with those in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Libya, the analysis reveals patterns of US foreign policy and its complex outcomes, questioning the ethical and strategic dimensions of military interventions.
